Want to know the ins and outs of a year flogging ebooks? Kobobooks VP, Michael Tamblyn reveals all in a new video entitled Lessons Learned from Shortcovers and Kobo: A Year in the Life of the What and How of Selling eBooks.
He’s articulate, honest and amusing. His lessons learned are both fascinating and surprising.
Some Kobo tidbits:
- no one wants to read short pieces; they’re interested in long narratives
- release early and release often; they now have new releases every two weeks
- readers are interested in escape first and information second
- fiction overwhelmingly dominates sales
- purchase/reading times start rising at lunch and peak big time at bedtime
- book market is a first DAY release market, not first month nor even first week
- readers are equally in favour of scrolling pages and page flipover pages
An enjoyable and interesting 40 minutes or so peek behind the curtain of the operations of a large online bookseller. Check out Kobo’s Lessons Learned.
Thanks, Michael.
