Michael Tamblyn Offers Kobo’s Ebook Lessons

Want to know the ins and outs of a year flogging ebooks? Kobobooks VP, Michael Tamblyn reveals all in a new video entitled Lessons Learned from Shortcovers and Kobo: A Year in the Life of the What and How of Selling eBooks.

He’s articulate, honest and amusing. His lessons learned are both fascinating and surprising.

Some Kobo tidbits:

  • no one wants to read short pieces; they’re interested in long narratives
  • release early and release often; they now have new releases every two weeks
  • readers are interested in escape first and information second
  • fiction overwhelmingly dominates sales
  • purchase/reading times start rising at lunch and peak big time at bedtime
  • book market is a first DAY release market, not first month nor even first week
  • readers are equally in favour of scrolling pages and page flipover pages

An enjoyable and interesting 40 minutes or so peek behind the curtain of the operations of a large online bookseller. Check out Kobo’s Lessons Learned.

Thanks, Michael.
