- QUILLR® – MultiMedia Thriller
Mystery novelist, Nicola Furlong, turned publishing heads in 2008 with the online launch of the world’s first QUILLR®, a thrilling supernatural suspense story entitled UnnaturalStates.
This controversial story offers the YouTube generation a fun and innovative experience. Something Joe Wikert (Publishing 2020 Blog) considers as possibly the “…future of content…”.

A QUILLR® is “…something completely different – and brilliant,” comments Tyler Reed of Scholastic blogspot. Using an “…amalgam of text, audio, video and still images called a QUILLR®…they have created their own TV-style adaptation of the novel,” adds Mathew Ingram of the Globe and Mail.
“A QUILLR® is not a book,” clarifies Glynne Turner, the creator of the QUILLR® concept. “It’s an experience.” The text is punctuated throughout with video clips and photographs of actors recreating the characters and scenes, and reading is enhanced by music and sound effects. “It’s lots of fun,” notes Toronto film/tv producer, Debbie Nightingale.
Unnaturalstates’ unique website, with its soft brown background and cream-colored font, triumphs over concerns regarding online reading. “I’m very impressed and interested,” said Nancy Cardin, Vancouver Island Regional Library. “I loved the graphics and music…it was like a mini-movie and the colors and fonts were easy on the eyes.”
